If you have been provided access to ASRE, information on utilizing the environment can be found below. Please direct any questions to the ASRE support team at asre-support@asu.edu.

Replace any mentions below of HOST-NAME or SFTP-HOST with the information provided from the ASRE support team.

Connecting to the ASRE Environment

Below are instructions for connecting to the ASRE environment.

  1. Connect to the ASU Cisco VPN with two factor authentication

      1. Note: Users must be connected to the VPN with 2fa to access. If the URL for your VPN connection does not have /2fa at the end, please visit the above link to switch to using ASU 2fa

      2. Note: VPN is required to connect to ASRE whether you are on or off-campus

    2. If you do not have Duo (2fa) set up for ASU on your mobile device, please visit https://getprotected.asu.edu/services/identity-and-access-management/duo-two-factor to get started

  2. Reset your password

    1. When you received access to ASRE, you should have an initial password from our support team. Please contact asre-support@asu.edu if you do not have your temporary password

    2. Reset your ASRE password (this is a separate password from your normal ASURITE password) at https://federation.wineds.asu.edu/adfs/portal/updatepassword 

      1. In the “ASURITE User ID:” field, be sure to enter your ASURITE login as “wineds\loginname”

        1. e.g. If your ASURITE is “bob1999” then you would enter “wineds\bob1999” in this field

      2. Note: You must be connected to the VPN or on campus to access this page. If you encounter errors on campus, try connecting to the VPN

    3. Passwords must be reset every 180 days

  3. Start a remote desktop session

    1. If you are on macOS, download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app here https://apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id1295203466?mt=12

    2. On Windows, you can use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection app or download the Remote Desktop client from the Microsoft Store: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/microsoft-remote-desktop/9wzdncrfj3ps

    3. Input the following information:

      1. PC name / Computer: HOST-NAME.asre.rc.asu.edu

      2. Friendly name: (anything you want)

      3. User account info with format username: WINEDS\ASURITE password: (password that you set prior)

      4. Recommend checking display options “update session resolution on resize”

  1. You can also use the command line on all Operating Systems with the “sftp” command)

  2. Each program is different, but you will want to use the following information:

    1. Protocol: SFTP

    2. Hostname: SFTP-HOST.asre.rc.asu.edu

    3. Username: ASURITE

    4. Password: (password that you set prior)

  3. Once you connect, you should see an inbound/outbound folder. These are logical separations so you know what you are moving into ASRE and out of ASRE. 

    1. On HOST-NAME these folders should match with your folder on the Z: drive (e.g. Z:\ASURITE\inbound)
