KE Secure Cloud
Secure-by-design and Scalable Capacity for Arizona Research Projects
Overview
Health research activity among our state universities and clinical partners continues to grow, prompting an increase in demand for qualified health data services and infrastructure. The KE Secure Cloud improves our ability to support multi-institutional collaboration, computationally intensive analysis, and a wide variety of additional secure project formats. It consists of several different services, such as ASRE Virtual Desktops and the Aloe Supercomputer. The environment is designed to be fully compliant with FERPA, HIPAA and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) requirements.
Within ASRE Virtual Desktops, teams of collaborators are able to choose from a variety of bundled and optimized configurations when getting started. Establishing new tenants for research teams takes very little time. Once created, this capacity can be directly managed by project team members. These isolated ‘virtual datacenters’ offer software, database, and performance features within a compliant, accessible and easy to use environment. ASU’s clinical partners and fellow Arizona universities are also able to access ASRE using high-bandwidth network pathways.
When teams purchase ASRE Virtual Desktops, they also get access to the Aloe Supercomputer at no additional charge. It is an HPC cluster that has added restrictions to accommodate restricted data. It boasts 1700+ CPU cores and 20 A100 80GB GPUs to allow for large scale computing, such as bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. It is managed jointly by the KE Secure Cloud team and Research Computing.
Dell has committed to joining ASU in growing the university’s computational research environment into one of the largest supercomputing and artificial intelligence resources in the nation. ASU has been awarded as the latest Dell Global Center of Excellence in these areas, joining only Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and San Diego Supercomputing (SDSC) within the United States.
