Community Datasets

Are you working with large datasets on a regular basis? Do you have a dataset that others might benefit from? Are you sharing datasets with multiple people?

There are a growing number of large public datasets that researchers depend on to conduct their work. These datasets can be utilized by different research groups or disciplines and are often downloaded and hosted on the supercomputer in multiple file system locations. To lighten the global load on the supercomputer’s shared filesystem and to foster data collaboration, Research Computing is now hosting datasets in a shared location (specifically under /data/datasets).

What are the benefits of sharing data? Below are just two, but there are many more!

  • Data sharing amongst peers and the public incentivizes researchers to manage data to ensure that data is high quality.

  • Data sharing encourages collaboration amongst researchers which might ultimately result in increased scientific discovery.
