Supercomputer Private Nodes

Supercomputer Private Nodes

Overview

ASU Research Computing (ASURC) will support faculty-purchased vendor hardware within the supercomputers, including supplying rack space, power, cooling, and networking. Faculty can purchase from the Dell pre-approved compute nodes. These nodes are assigned a private QoS on the supercomputer that is available to the faculty member and supporting group.

Idle cycles from privately-owned nodes are open to be used by the ASU community under limited circumstances.  Specifically, jobs submitted to the htc/public partition may run on these nodes without preemption for a maximum of 4 hours. Jobs submitted and running on these nodes under the private QoS will be immediately preempted by any users of the priority QoS.

ASURC will support faculty-purchased hardware for as long as feasible; however, beyond the warranty period of the hardware, the faculty is responsible for any hardware and labor costs necessary to maintain the hardware. If Research Computing deems that it is not technically feasible to support hardware beyond the warranty period, it will be removed from the supercomputer.
