Canyon - Long-term storage

Overview

Canyon, the long-term storage system, is now accessible for general use. Canyon serves as a cold storage or archive system, similar to AWS Glacier. It can be accessed through Globus and enables you to transfer data from any of your existing Globus endpoints. Another tool available for interacting with the long-term storage system is Cyberduck.

Availability

The Canyon system can be accessed either through Globus or by using a tool such as Cyberduck.

Access

To gain access to this storage or obtain more information, kindly submit a request to RTO Request Help.

Usage Guidelines

Ensure that the data stored complies with our data policy and legal regulations. Canyon does not support storing sensitive data.
Regular backups of critical data are recommended, even though our systems are designed for high reliability.

Policies

  • The long-term storage is not directly accessible via the supercomputer

  • All data is kept on-site and is not replicated to secondary storage by default

  • Recall times can vary based on data volume and demand

Getting Started

Globus

Getting started with Globus

Once your bucket is created and permissions have been assigned, you will be able to see this in Globus by browsing “ASURC Canyon - Long-term Storage”. Once here you will be required to add consent, which you can do by hitting “Continue” on the screen below.

After hitting continue, you will be asked to link an identity, you will want to make sure this is your ASURITE, as this is what has been configured to be allowed access to the storage. You can do this by clicking on the asurite@asu.edu, or linking another id from ASU.

Once you have linked your identity, you will see any folder that is available to you, and you can begin to transfer data.
