What is REDCap?

Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. The software is developed, updated, and distributed by Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Each institution licensed for use is responsible for hosting the application in accordance with their own institutional practices and needs.

While REDCap can be used to collect virtually any type of data in any environment (including compliance with 21 CFR Part 11, FISMA, HIPAA, and GDPR), it is specifically geared to support online and offline data capture for research studies and operations. The type of data REDCap can be used to collect is partially dependent on the environment on which it is installed.

The Research Technology Office (RTO) within ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise support two REDCap systems.

  1. Enterprise REDCap can be used to for general, non-sensitive data

  2. Enterprise Secure Research (ESR) REDCap is available for HIPAA data

Please refer to our https://asurc.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ASUREDCAP/pages/1904967754 on the REDCap environments supported by ASU or contact the Research Technology Office if you have any questions.
